Emergency Loans for Pet & Vet Bills
Credit crunch pets The amount of pets being abandoned has risen dramatically and the blame is being laid squarely at the door of the current economic climate and the fact that owners cannot afford to keep their animals.
Figures from the welfare charity Blue Cross indicate that it had dealt with nearly 50% more abandoned animals this year than last and the Battersea dogs and Cats Home claim that figures have doubled.
Both organisations blame the credit crunch for the rise.
What is particularly disturbing is that owners are choosing to abandon pets rather than take them to animal sanctuary’s that could care for them in the interim. Although these charities are stretched to the limit, they would rather take pets that can no longer be cared for than see them released to fend for themselves.
Owners are also being urged to neuter and spay their pets to avoid an increase in unwanted animals.
